Hello hello! Happy Friday!
I suddenly came down with the flu on Wednesday night so I'm sniffling and sneezing but so glad the weekend is here! We have a busy weekend planned because it's my birthday on Monday - so I'm hoping I can kick this cold to the curb ASAP.
But before I can get to that, I've got to catch you up on our week!
Here's what's been happening in our world this week! >>
Recently Reading: Not as much as normal as we've been so busy, but I've still read some pretty awesome books!
I Am Change was such a powerful novel. Heart breaking, eye opening and so so good. I also really loved How Death Becomes Life. After reading that, I feel like I understand so much more about organ transplants and I'm totally in awe of the work transplant surgeons do.
Also, so many people asked me if How Death Becomes Life is like When Breath Becomes Air and my answer is no - but only because I really did not like When Breath Becomes Air. I don't know why, but I just didn't love it the way others did. I did, however, love How Death Becomes Life.
Recently Planning: A date night next Tuesday night! We're going to see 3 Weeks in Spring which is running for a limited time at the State Theatre.
3 Weeks in Spring is a musical that tells the story of the birth of the ANZAC legend. But since I haven't seen it yet - I'll let their blurb do the talking;
Performed by thirty-five Australian actors and ten musicians, it is set during the first three weeks of the Gallipoli campaign in April 1915. The musical explores the themes of mateship, courage and sacrifice, unlikely heroes, love and loss, following the soldiers – and the loved ones they left behind
Narrated by C.E.W. Bean, the journalist and historian who did more than anyone to create the Anzac legend, the musical is centred on the story of Private John Simpson Kirkpatrick, better known as ‘Simpson and his donkey”; from the time he arrived in Turkey to the time he died. Simpson became famous as a stretcher-bearer, as he braved “the hottest shrapnel” and used a donkey to transport wounded men from Shrapnel Gully to Anzac Cove.
Tickets are still available here if you're also interested in going.
Recently Enjoying: Board game nights with friends - and we have another one planned for tonight!
Last week we played Deck Around with friends for the first time and laughed ourselves stupid. This may be our new favourite game. SO funny.
Recently Crafting: ALLL THE THINGS! Our internet was out almost all of yesterday/last night so we decided to do some Cricut crafting.
We made another Dungeons and Dragon's shirt for Jesse which turned out SO awesome!
The design was made almost entirely in Cricut Design Space (with a LOT of slicing/patience required) and it turned out so much better than expected! We were inspired by a design we saw on Pinterest.
We also did our first ever hats on the weekend. I saw these $3 hats at Kmart and decided our Pokemon squad needed some hats for Pokemon Go community day, so we made it happen 😛
Jesse and I worked together and got 6 hats done in under 2 hours. There were a few little mishaps along the way but we worked it out!
Just a FYI, if you're planning on making anything with those hats, turn the heat way down as they must have a layer on the front that seizes a little when the heat is too high.
We didn't get a group photo but apparently when you put a hat on you turn into a peace sign selfie taking dweeb, haha.
Recently Finding: That Trixie can reach into the garbage can from the staircase....
My Dad hadn't finished all of his lunch and put it in the bin (which for some reason didn't close properly) and whilst Jesse and I were out for a walk with a friend, little miss Trixie seemed to have climbed onto the second step, poked her head through the bars and retrieved her prize.
When we got home, the rest of the wrap was nowhere to be found and Trixie was SO guilty. She came sulking over with her head so low to the ground and then when I yelled at the dogs to see who made the mess, Trixie went and hid between Jesse's legs 🤣
Little fatty.
Recently Making: A marbled baked cheesecake to share with friends tonight! I think I might have to share the recipe for this baby next week. It's got a chocolate brownie/cookie base and it's SO good.
Recently Posting: How to Make a DIY Stencilled Doormat with the Cricut Maker (or just with a stencil!)
And this DEEELICIOUS Easy Homemade Gluten Free Cheese Crackers Recipe. SOOOOO good. Put these on your weekend to do list!
But tell me,
How has your week been?
What's the last thing you made? (Either in the kitchen or a craft!)
And what's your plan for the weekend?
