TBR: August Reading List and Book Recommendations

August Reading List - Something for everyone with book recommendations for the latest crime, click lit, romance, crime, thriller and sci fi novels

Hello lovely ones! Happy first of the month!

Since it is the start of August (where has this year gone?!), I thought I'd share my TBR list.

I have a giant stack of books to read through (because I have a bitttt of a book problem), but this month I thought I'd come up with a goal list of the books I want to get through.

There's a bit of chick lit, sci fi, romance, crime, thriller - basically something for everyone. So have a look through - and make sure you read through to the bottom and share your recommendations with me! (Or just scroll right past and do that anyway if you're short on time)

So let me share my August Reading List with you! >>

This book was actually quite a bit further down my TBR list, but since it first arrived from the publisher, Jesse has been begging me to read it because he wants to read it himself.

Blurb: Hundreds of years ago, the last humans on Earth boarded the Exodus Fleet in search of a new home among the stars. After centuries spent wandering empty space, their descendants were eventually accepted by the well-established species that govern the Milky Way.
But that was long ago. Today, the Exodus Fleet is a living relic, the birthplace of many, yet a place few outsiders have ever visited. While the
Exodans take great pride in their original community and traditions, their culture has been influenced by others beyond their bulkheads. As many Exodans leave for alien cities or terrestrial colonies, those who remain are left to ponder their own lives and futures: What is the purpose of a ship that has reached its destination? Why remain in space when there are habitable worlds available to live? What is the price of sustaining their carefully balanced way of life—and is it worth saving at all?

A young apprentice, a lifelong spacer with young children, a planet-raised traveller, an alien academic, a caretaker for the dead, and an Archivist whose mission is to ensure no one’s story is forgotten, wrestle with these profound universal questions. The answers may seem small on the galactic scale, but to these individuals, it could mean everything.

Other Books: I've just realised that this book is actually part of a trilogy - but I'm told it can be read alone. If you're looking for the full trilogy, here is;  Book 1; The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet (AU Link here), Book 2; A Closed and Common Orbit (AU Link here)

Blurb:
What are you doing to help yourself? What are you doing to show that you're worth the resources?
In a near-future world, medical technology has progressed far enough that immortality is now within grasp -but only to those who show themselves to be deserving of it. These people are the lifers: the exercisers, yogacisers, green juicers and early nighters.

Genetically perfect, healthy and wholesome, one hundred-year-old Lea is the poster girl for lifers, until the day she catches a glimpse of her father in the street, eighty-eight years after their last encounter. While pursuing him, Lea has a brush with death which sparks suspicions. If Lea could be so careless, is she worthy of immortality?

Suicide Club wasn't always an activist group. It began as a set of disillusioned lifers, gathering to indulge in forbidden activities: performances of live music, artery-clogging meals, irresponsible orgies. But now they have been branded terrorists and are hunted by the state.

And Lea has decided to give them a call.

August Reading List Book Recommendations 2018 - The Last of the Bonegilla Girls by Victoria PurmanThe Last of the Bonegilla Girls

Blurb:
Their friendship transcends nationality and background, but can it overcome the horrors of the past? A post-Second World War story of strong female ties and family, secrets and lies, set in the multicultural Australia of the fifties.

Can the Bonegilla girls defeat their past? Or will it come to claim them?

1954: When 16-year-old Hungarian Elizabeta arrives in Australia with her family, she is hoping to escape the hopelessness of life as a refugee in post-war Germany.

Her first stop is the Bonegilla Migrant Camp on the banks of the Murray in rural Victoria, a temporary home for thousands of new arrivals, all looking for work and a better life. There, Elizabeta becomes firm friends with the feisty Greek Vasiliki; quiet Italian Iliana; and the adventurous Frances, the daughter of the camp's director.

In this vibrant and growing country, the Bonegilla girls rush together toward a life that seems full of promise, even as they cope with the legacy of war, the oppressive nature of family tradition and ever-present sorrow. So when a ghost from the past reaches out for Elizabeta and threatens to pull her back into the shadows, there is nothing that her friends wouldn't do to keep her safe.

But secrets have a way of making themselves known and lies have a way of changing everything they touch...

But tell me;
What's the best book you've read lately? Or what's one book you'd recommend everyone puts on their TBR list?
