The temperatures have been dropping in Sydney lately. The fireplace is on in our front lounge room, the heating is on in the mornings and evenings and I'm finding myself putting on long sleeves instead of short and covering my freezing cold feet in socks and slippers.
So what does one do when it's getting colder?
Why, if you ask me - the answer to that question is quite simple. You go on a hunt for ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL the warm and cosy things in life.
I'm talking cosy sweaters, new varieties of tea, slippers and when it comes to decor - that means blankets, warm lighting and a wintery colour palette.
So let me share my Calm and Cosy (not quite) Winter Theme with you! >>
This month, my friends from Kmart sent me four decor pieces that acted as the perfect starting point for my decor theme. I had the Zsa Zsa Faux Fur Throw, Rose Gold Look Lamp the Black Weave Rug and the Mesh Shade Floor Lamp.
With the greys and metallics, I decided I'd go for a grey, pale pink and metallic colour palette - and to set myself a little challenge (because I was totally made for a TV show like Masterchef or House Rules where they give you set items/ingredients and set you off on a task), I decided I'd stick to using just items from Kmart - along with my existing pieces (like my books/furniture/bookshelf).
The rug was a perfect fit under my Kivik Chaise Lounge as it can be seen under the edges - but it's not too big that it messes with my desk chairs (as my office is SMALL) or too big that it makes the room feel even smaller.
And if you ask the puppies, the Zsa Zsa throw is THE BEST BLANKET IN THE WORLD because they now spend all day every day taking turns sleeping on the lounge.
It's super cosy, super lush and perfect for winter. My only wish? That I had two so I could wrap myself in the second - but I think that's what I'm going to pick up this afternoon whilst I'm at the shops!
The Marble Side Table was something I picked up (after hunting around at a few different stores as they've been completely sold out!). Each of the tables are unique as they're topped with natural marble - so mine is whiter than I expected - but for $29, you cannot fault the quality.
I've needed a side table for a while as I'm constantly grabbing a tray or finding a stool for my tea of a morning, so this table was the perfect purchase!
My office is really quite dark (as I only have a single pendant light in the centre of the room which doesn't cast as much light as I'd like - and in winter time I only really get bright sunlight in the morning through the window) so I wanted to add a warm glow to the room with lamps.
I added a vintage globe to the Mesh Shade Floor Lamp, making the perfect reading and ambient light. It's not too bright - but it gives a beautiful golden glow.
For my peg board wall (get the instructions here - it's 2x $29 peg boards joined), I stuck with the pink and grey theme, adding the felt shapes bunting ($4 in the nursery/baby section), my pink felt memo board ($8), a wooden star hanger I bought from Kmart at Christmas time, some cloud storage boxes I bought on clearance from Kmart earlier this year (from the nursery section) and my little house shelf (not from Kmart) with a little house cutout (not from Kmart) and a tree cutout (on clearance in the nursery section - I've seen lots of these block and cut out sets around so keep an eye out!).
The wall hanging frame is one I purchased from Amazon here, with a simple A4 print out added.
On the other side of the room, I continued the pink theme with pink and white books on our DIY Pallet Wood Bookshelf, adding my READ letters ($2 each from the nursery section at Kmart), my DIY'ed Hello I'm a Bookworm Sign and this cute rose gold globe ($7 from Kmart).
On the desktop I added the Rose Gold Look Lamp, a gold embellished vase, a rose gold alarm clock and on the left, my Ellia diffuser, peace lily and a watercolour print of Chanel I had done last year from an Etsy artist (here's the seller - HIGHLY recommended).
And there you have it - my wintery theme for the month... and a much needed reminder for myself.
RELAX, WINTER ISN'T SO BAD.... when it involves fur throw rugs and all the pretty things.
Also, while you're at Kmart, be sure to pick yourself up a heated throw rug. We got the dark grey one and ended up going out and buying a second because we (and the dogs) are OBSESSED. So cosy!
But tell me,
What's your winter home essentials?
For me, it's all about the WARMTH! Cosy blankets, soft pillows, chairs to snuggle up on and warm golden lighting. Give me all the hyggee vibes!
And what's your current home colour scheme?
I always like to involve pink, regardless of what I do - but I have some new desk chairs coming that are teal (one of my secondary favourite colours) so I'm thinking about how I can incorporate them into future themes).
