Well hey, you! Happy Friday!!
This week has gone by super ridiculously quick - and I don't really know how it is Friday, but it is... and I'm not complaining because I'm ready for the weekend!
But before I can get to the weekend - I've got to catch you up on the week... and explain that all fired up title...
Here's what's been happening in our world recently! >>
Recent Movies: Last Friday we saw A Quiet Place and ohhhhhh me oh my was it good! I'm not usually scared or thrilled by thriller movies at all - but this one? So good. So suspenseful, so jumpy, so good. I cannot recommend it enough!
Recent Reads: In the last week I've read two books.. a little slow for me but I haven't had much time to read!
I read A Man Called Ove and really loved it (and I kind of want my own Ove as he reminded me of my grandpa, haha) and now I'm trying to convince Jesse to watch the movie version with me! I never realised it was a movie so now I'm excited to watch it.
I also read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society which has just been released as a movie - so I think I'm going to have to go and see that too!
I got a few messages about my little mermaid bookmark so here is the link for it! It comes in a two pack with a sweet little fairy bookmark too and I'm obsessed with them.
I also got a few questions about this tea pot - but I can't tell you where to get it because it was a secondhand find. Just another one of the many many many tea pots in my collection.
That cup, however, I can tell you about - it's a Maxwell and Williams Cashmere Enchante collection cup called Jacqueline. It's old stock but I still see them around here and there!
Recent Sadness: Remember the house fire I was talking about in last week's post? This is what's left of the poor lady's house 😔 So sad!
Recent Fear: But that wasn't the end of the fire dramas in our area!
On Saturday afternoon, we started seeing big plumes of smoke in the distance - which quickly escalated. About 5km away from our house (as the crow flies) there were HUGE fires - covering hectares of land. They lasted all day and night on Saturday and most of the day on Sunday - finally being contained on Monday.
On Saturday night the fires were so bad we can see the flames from our balcony - and the insane wind was whipping them up and spreading them quickly. We were never in direct danger of the fire - but the risk is always that the fire could spread as the embers are thrown around with the wind - and when you live in an area full of trees, just by a huge national park that hasn't seen fire in years, that risk is pretty scary!
Luckily the fire never got close to us - but a few of our friends were evacuated in the area. Somehow, our INCREDIBLE fire fighters managed to control the fires - meaning that there were ZERO houses destroyed by the fire - and ZERO lives lost. How that happened is absolutely incredible - but we are lucky that our emergency services are quick to respond, quick to warn residents and always have the public's best interest at heart.
So we've been living in a bit of a smoke bubble this week as firefighters back burn different areas to reduce the risk of future fires and the fire continues to burn itself out.
Recent Fun: On Saturday night, I had some of my favourite ladies over for a girls' night in! We talked about watching a movie - but that never happened as we had to much to talk about!
I did everything gluten free for the night since I was hosting - so we had cheese and crackers, cheesecakes in cocktail glasses, popcorn and a chocolate platter. Simple, easy and delicious. The cheesecakes were no bake cheesecakes which I really need to make and photograph to share with you soon!
Recent Eats: Friday nights are Pizza Pie Fridays in the SIL house and last week I decided to try a new combination!
Instead of a tomato or pesto base, I made a cheesy bechamel sauce (like you put on top of lasagna) and topped it with sliced ham and more cheese and it was sooooooooooo good!
I use this Gluten Free Toscano Pizza base for me and the non-gf ones for Jesse, cooking them for 4 minutes before adding the toppings and then when we take them out of the oven for the final time, we place them onto a cooling tray so the bottoms don't get soggy.
SO good.
But tell me,
How has your week been?
What was the best thing you've eaten this week?
And what are your plans for the weekend?
