How We Did a Bedroom Makeover on a Budget WITHOUT Painting

Bright and Beautiful Bedroom Makeover - Bedroom Makeover without Painting on a Budget - How to Create Your Own Unique Home Decorating Style

Bedrooms are one of those rooms that are easy to overlook.

For some, they may just be for sleeping.
For others, they may be the place they curl up and watch tv or read a book at night.
For many, they might be the place all the “junk” seems to get thrown into when guests come over to visit.

But when you think about how many hours you spend in your bedroom (probably more than any other room in the house) – they really deserve to be more of a sanctuary.

Our bedroom was in need of a revamp. The colours were a little bit all over the place, the bed frame had been fixed a few times, there were messy cables all over the place – and don’t even get me started on the pile of shoes under the bed.

We returned home from our trip to Hawaii where we’d stayed in tidy hotel rooms and apartments and I decided enough was enough. It was time for an overhaul.

But after just repainting and renovating my future office and going through all of the time (and money) that took, I knew I needed to do it without picking up a single paint brush.

Whilst we only made a few changes, it made a huge difference – and I thought I’d share what we did with you to give you a little bit of bedroom makeover inspiration too.

So let me share how we revamped our bedroom without painting a single thing! >>

I realise most room makeover projects would have a before and after shot - but this isn't your average makeover...

Actually, it kind of is but we were in a hurry to redo everything that we never thought to take a photo first. But luckily I took plenty of photos afterwards!

Our bedroom makeover all started with the bed. We got a brand new mattress and put together a bed frame we bought a little while ago (when we thought we were moving - but that fell through and we've had the bed frame sitting there ever since!).

With the new bed up, I wanted to get some new bedding and headed to TK Maxx for the basics - new sheets, pillows and a mattress topper.

We have two main quilt covers that we rotate - the one on the left that's from Ardor Home and the one on the right that's an Organic Cotton Waffle Quilt Cover from Ecodownunder.

With each quilt cover comes a different set of cushions from Simply Cushions (on the left is the Maci Pink Cushion and the Magenta Rectangular Pink Velvet Cushion and on the right is the Yellow Chevron Cushion Cover and the Magenta Rectangular Pink Velvet Cushion) and a throw. The throw on the left is from TK Maxx (and I think it was under $20) and the throw on the right is Ecodownunder's Cotton Waverly Throw in Turquoise and it is seriously lush.

We used turquoise/teal as an accent colour for the room to try and tie together the pink and orange of the walls without overwhelming the space.

This Utopia Turquoise Lamp is from Amart Furniture and I am totally in love with it.  It's also available in white and whilst it's kind of difficult to clean, it's totally worth it because it looks amazing.

The little frame was one I picked up for just a few dollars at TK Maxx - and the side table was one I found on Gumtree for $20 which I then repainted, distressed and finished with Annie Sloan's soft wax. I also swapped the original modern handle for a rustic style handle that I bought on eBay for just $1!

Around the room we have a bunch of different trinkets and photos from our travels and adventures. I've always had little "zones" in our room where I've nested things together and I think that's the best approach when decorating.

To (literally) lighten up the top of the dresser - I created this zone, featuring an Owl Lamp (this one and this one are similar), heart marquee light, frames from TK Maxx with a print I designed and some of our wedding photos, a camera piggy bank, engraved pewter jewellery boxes Jesse bought me for my birthday one year and some K and J marquee letters I found at Kmart (they're in the Christmas section and I think they were only $5!).

Custom Wedding Date Blocks - Unique Personalised Wedding Gift Ideas Cinderella Wedding Carriage Snow Globe Collectible

On Jesse's side of the bed, on top of his dresser, you'll find a print I made for our first wedding anniversary, some personalised wedding date blocks (that were custom made and unfortunately no longer available - but you could make your own like this) and the most beautiful Cinderella and Prince Charming Carriage we received as a wedding present from beautiful friends. Oh and the grey smears on that frame aren't dust. Apparently I stuck the print in too soon after it printed and it's permanently fused on there 😛

And in our bay window, on top of the dresser (yes, have you realised we have three dressers? Two are Jesse's and one is mine because he has more clothes than me) you'll a TK Maxx advertisement 😛

That clipboard frame was only $14.95 and is perfect for displaying pictures or a quote as you can change it easily. The frame next to it is also from TK Maxx - as is the wooden sign.

I like to bring home a special souvenir wherever we travel and those elephants and the little elephant jewelry box were from Bali - where that photo of us on the elephant was also taken.

Underneath our TV you'll find more photos (can you tell I'm someone who not only loves taking photos but sharing them?!). On one side is a random assortment - including a photo of a little Kristy that Jesse won't let me change - I promise I'm not self obsessed, haha!

On the right-hand side is a photo from our trip to Hawaii along with some little jars I found at TK Maxx and a carved turtle we bought in Hawaii as a keepsake.

And there you have it, our little bedroom makeover!

Our favourite stores;
Home Decor - TK Maxx (perfect for bargainistas like myself!)
Throws TK Maxx and Eco Downunder
Cushions - Simply Cushions

But tell me,
What colour is your bedroom?
And do you like to stick to decorating trends - or do your own thing?
Clearly, I like to do my own thing because you won't find any grey/pale pink/marble/rose gold in my bedroom. I like COLOUR! Though my office is a mix of white and bright colours/rose gold.
