In an ideal world, I'd be a socialite.
Entertaining my friends all day every day, having ample time to bake and create delicious treats to surprise them with, putting together the most elaborate celebrations... you know the drill.
In reality? I work and my life tends to run to the constant hum of busyness.
But I still make time for my friends and family - and still like to put on that socialite hat whenever I get the chance...
It just means that sometimes I have to cheat...
Cheat? Yeah, we're not talking relationship infidelity here... we're talking about socialite shortcuts.
This recipe is one of those shortcuts.. but it's still impressive and seriously delicious and no one will suspect a thing when you serve it up. There's also the not-quite-a-shortcut route that you can take if you want to put on your Martha Steward hat too 😉
So let me share the recipe with you >>
Spicy Harissa Topped Hummus Recipe
gluten free, vegan, peanut free, dairy free, egg free
The Hummus/Hommous/Hommus/however you want to spell it:
You can use either storebought hummus (socialite shortcut, my friends) or make your own hummus as the base. If you feel like making your own, here's my favourite;
You can use either storebought hummus (socialite shortcut, my friends) or make your own hummus as the base. If you feel like making your own, here's my favourite;
1 can of chickpeas, drained and rinsed
1/4 cup tahini
1 clove of garlic, crushed
2 tbsp olive oil or avocado oil
1/4 cup water
Salt, to taste
Optional but recommended: 2-3 tbsp lemon juice
Blend all of your ingredients in a blender or food processor until smooth, adding more water if needed to create the right consistency.
Chill until you're ready to serve. This hummus will keep in the fridge for up to a week.
The Topping:
Hello, socialite shortcut. This is where I used Gourmet Garden's Harissa Finishing Drizzle (this is not a sponsored recipe - but I did receive a sample of the product from them). If you're outside of Australia this Harissa Infused Oil is the perfect alternative.
- Simply make your hummus, chill it until you're ready to serve and then top your hummus with lightly roasted pine nuts, a drizzle of the Harissa Finishing Drizzle and maybe a sprinkle of parsley and you're good to go! Serve your hummus with your favourite crackers/vegetable sticks/toasted pieces of bread - the possibilities are endless!
But tell me,
Do you have any "socialite shortcuts" that might seem elaborate or fancy but are in fact really easy?
