Do you want to know one of the problems that pops up when people you find you have a blog? They expect you to always make awesome food.
My friends will tell you otherwise but let's be honest... if you asked me to bring something along to a party or I invited you to my house for dinner and served up a takeaway meal or something I bought from Coles, you'd probably be thinking "huh?! But she shares all those recipes!"
Luckily for my friends, I like to create delicious food for the ones I love - but don't let that fool you. Whilst sometimes I may appear to be a mini Suzy Homemaker, it's all an illusion.
I may arrive at your place with a cheese platter and homemade crackers and you're thinking "How on earth does she have time to make HOMEMADE crackers?!" but really said homemade crackers took me all of twenty minutes to make and I only had to pull three ingredients to make them.
And one of those ingredients was water...
Fake it til you make it, friends.
Because really, if you want to look like you've got it all together and you're owning life, make homemade crackers.
And if you want to look even more awesome? Serve it with a homemade dip.... or you know... take a storebought dip out of the tub, sprinkle some paprika or fresh herbs on top and no one will ever have to know ;)
So let me share the recipe with you! >>
Easy Three Ingredient Homemade Crackers Recipe
gluten free, grain free, vegan, clean eating recipe, low fat
makes 1 small batch of crackers (+~20 sticks or one cookie sheet)
1 cup (120g) besan flour or gluten free plain flour (please DO NOT use coconut flour/almond flour)
1 tsp (5 ml) rice bran oil or olive oil
1/4 cup water
Optional: sea salt/seasonings of your choice
- Preheat your oven to 180C/355F
- Set aside a baking sheet/cookie sheet.
- In a medium sized mixing bowl, add your flour, oil and about 1/2 of your water (and seasonings, if using).
- Mix until your ingredients start to come together and gradually add in as much of your remaining water as is needed to form a dough. You can also do this in your food processor if you don't feel like mixing.
- Once your dough starts to come together. Knead it together with your hands until smooth. If needed, add some extra water or flour until you get a smooth dough, however, be careful not to add too much water as it will become sticky.
- Lay a sheet of baking paper onto your benchtop or chopping board and place your dough on top. Place another sheet of baking paper on top of your dough and roll out the dough between the two pieces of paper using a rolling pin.
- Roll out your dough as thin as possible. About 2-3mm/1/8" is perfect.
- Once your dough is rolled out, lift off the top piece of baking paper and cut your pieces with a sharp knife. Leave the crackers on the baking sheet and prick your crackers with a fork to stop them from puffing up too much.
- Move your baking paper with the crackers onto your tray and sprinkle salt over the top of your crackers if desired.
- Bake your crackers for 15-20 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the crackers are crisp to the touch.
- Allow to cool before breaking your crackers at the cut lines and serving. They're best eaten on the day they're made, however, any leftover crackers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature (they will soften slightly) for up to a week.
But tell me, do you have any Suzy Homemaker tricks?
You know, those recipes or dishes that make you look like a domestic goddess when really that's all an illusion? Or do you have a friend who's actually a domestic goddess? Or god?
And does your blog or job cause people to expect certain things of you?
As a writer, people also ALWAYS expect me to know the definition for every single word... unfortunately I'm not that smart :P
