Recipe: Healthier Ham & Cheese Crepes + A GIVEAWAY!

Healthier Ham and Cheese Crepes Recipe - low fat, gluten free, clean eating friendly, healthy dinner recipes

If you've read Southern In-Law even once before, you'd know that we loveeeeeeee making healthier versions of classic recipes. I'm someone who believes that no food should be "off limits" - you either eat it in moderation, or create a healthier version of it.

These days there are so many healthier options of classics foods on the market and sometimes all it takes is switching a single ingredient. Recently Hans launched a new healthier option onto the market - their Oliving by Hans Range.

Oliving by Hans replaces some of the saturated fat found in deli meats (such as ham, bacon and salami) with olive oil so that you can have a healthier option without losing any of the taste. The range was inspired by the Mediterranean diet and is a first in the Australian market for smallgoods.

Healthier Ham and Cheese Crepes Recipe - low fat, gluten free, clean eating friendly, healthy dinner recipes

Inspired by Oliving by Hans' healthier ham range, we decided to share one of our favourite healthier classics - Ham and Cheese Savoury Crepes.

This is a dish we often whip up on "lazy night" for a quick and easy dinner that's still incredibly delicious - and unlike the crepes you'll find in restaurants, they're not full of fat and they're also gluten free!

But I'm not the only one whipping up healthier dishes! Take a look at this video from Hans where you'll see a whole bunch of healthier recipes (Jesse cannot stop drooling over those Pancakes with Bacon & Maple Syrup and is wishing we had have been able to make it to the event!). You can see heaps of recipes and meal ideas under the #HansOliving Hashtag on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter!

We also have 4x $50 Gift Certificates to WIN! So be sure to find out how to enter below!

But let me give you the recipe for these Healthier Crepes!
Healthier Ham and Cheese Crepes Recipe - low fat, gluten free, clean eating friendly, healthy dinner recipes

Healthier Ham & Cheese Savoury Crepes
a recipe for Oliving by Hans - serves 2, easily multiplied
low fat, gluten free, clean eating friendly

1/2 cup (60g) gluten free plain flour*
2/3 cup milk of your choice**
2 eggs
1x 100g pack Oliving by Hans Ham (we like the naturally smoked ham)
A handful of reduced fat grated cheddar cheese/cheese of your choice
Optional: feel free to add any other ingredients you like - sauteed mushrooms, shallots, fresh herbs, mustard - the possibilities are endless!
  • In a medium mixing bowl, mix together your sifted flour, milk and eggs until smooth.
  • Place your crepe batter in the fridge to chill for ~15-30 minutes while preparing your other ingredients (I usually make up a side salad whilst I wait).
  • Lightly grease a crepe pan/medium non-stick frying pan and heat over a medium-high heat.
  • Pour 1/4 cup of your crepe mixture onto your pan whilst tilted, rotating the pan around carefully to ensure your crepe mix spreads out across the pan. If your crepe batter looks too thick, add a little more milk (no more than 1/3 cup).
  • Cook until the top of your crepe is set and the edges begin to lift from the pan.
  • Flip carefully using a spatula or your fingers (just be careful not to burn them!) and cook on the other side for another minute.
  • Top with some of your ham and some of the cheese and fold into quarters (or roll if you prefer).
  • Repeat until all of your crepes are cooked and filled.
  • Serve immediately on their own or with a side salad/veggies of your choice!
*You may also use regular plain flour or a mix of half GF plain flour and half buckwheat flour (or for a non-GF version, try half regular/half wholewheat plain flour)
**We use almond milk in this recipe as that's what we always have in the fridge!

  1. Ive never actually tried crepes.
No recipe as such to try but my son is currently obsessed with anything with toasted sandwich in its title so thinking this ham would be great to try with a cheese toastie.

  8. Maybe not original but because pizza is a stable for us at least once a fortnight I must try the new Oliving by Hans Range as a topping. The kids generally love ham and pineapple, a basic but oh so delicious. We venture more to 2-3 meat choices, ricotta cheese and spinach leaves with a few olives thrown in. We love our packaged meats, convenient, easy to freeze when needed and disappears very fast with a weeks worth of packed lunches.
