Recipe: Secretly Skinny Nutella Chocolate Chip Cookies

Secretly Skinny Low Fat Nutella Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe - low fat, gluten free, lower sugar

This is the recipe that made me decide I've excelled at creating healthy recipes. I mean seriously Secretly Skinny NUTELLA COOKIES?!?!?!?!?! It's Nutella for crying out loud - you can never lose with Nutella.

Usually I'm pretty modest with my recipes... but this one? You need to make it ASAP because it's seriously, ridiculously good and you wouldn't know for a second that they're healthier in any way shape or form.

I always happy dance when I perfect a recipe I've been testing - but this recipe had Jesse and I high-fiving, happy dancing and then devouring all of said cookies.... but don't worry, the recipe only makes a small batch so it's not like you're eating 3 dozen cookies ;)

We now buy Nutella just so we can make these cookies - and our friends and family have fallen in love with them too. They have crisp, chewy edges and deliciously soft middles and just the right amount of Nutella flavour. We like to use white chocolate chips as it's the perfect fit, however, you can use whatever chocolate chips you like - or none at all! (I'm going to buy some Kinder Bars to try baking with them as their chocolate hazelnutty goodness would be perfect for this!)

But enough yapping! You want the recipe, right?!?!

Secretly Skinny Gluten Free Nutella Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe - low fat, gluten free, lower sugar

Secretly Skinny Nutella Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe makes 10-12 cookies
gluten free, lower sugar, low fat, healthier version

3/4 cup (90g) gluten free plain flour (or regular)
1/4 cup (50g) unrefined cane sugar or brown sugar
3/4 tsp baking powder
1 tsp (5g) cornstarch
1 tbsp (15g) butter, melted
1/4 cup (65g) Nutella
Pinch salt
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 large egg white
~1/4-1/3 cup Chocolate Chips (we used white but you can use whatever you like!)

Preheat your oven to 180C/350F.
Prepare two baking sheets by lining them with baking paper.
Place your flour, sugar, baking powder and cornstarch in a medium mixing bowl and set aside.
In a small saucepan over a medium-low heat, melt your butter.
Stir in your nutella, salt and vanilla extract, allowing just to mix together.
Remove your nutella mixture from the heat and slowly add in your egg white, mixing to combine.
Add your nutella mixture to your flour and stir until just combined.
Stir through your chocolate chips and shape into balls.
Flatten your cookies on your cookie sheet (to about 1cm thickness) and then bake for 7-10 minutes or until the edges are just starting to crisp up.
Allow to cool slightly before devouring or allow to cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
The cookies will keep for 3 or so days (if they last that long!) but the texture is best on the first day!

But tell me, what is the one food you wish was healthier?
And what's your favourite sweet treat at the moment?
This girl is always up for a challenge so let's see what I can come up with!

  2. Hi TD, I'm not sure of the nutritional breakdown for this recipe as it's not something I do personally, however, I know a lot of readers use My Fitness Pal to work out the nutritional breakdown of recipes so you might like to try that!

It will all depend on what ingredients you choose!
