If you've been reading Southern In-Law for a while you migggggght have realised that I'm not exactly normal when it comes to food combinations.... in fact, I am the queen of weird food combinations - but I call them Weird But Wonderful combinations.
It has a lot to do with my allergies, but more to do with my foodie brain as I've been doing it for years. I especially love mixing sweet and savoury combinations - and this Nutella and Goat Cheese Sandwich is one of my very best WbW combinations
I know what you're thinking.......
And yes I just said Goat Cheese and Nutella Sandwich but please, don't run for the hills! Bear with me!
Whilst incredibly weird, this combination totally works. Think; salty, sweet, tart, smooth, oh so incredibly good. No, I haven't gone loco... but Jesse would tell you I have... I've just come up with what I like to call a delishable combination.. and no, that word doesn't really mean anything other than get. in. my. stomach. now.
So I dare you, give it a try... you may just have a new favourite combination. So let me share the recipe with you (not that it's really a recipe, but hey!)
Weird But Wonderful: Goat Cheese and Nutella Sandwich makes one sandwich
2 slices of your favourite bread (I used Purebred Gluten Free Bread as it's one I can eat)
~1 tbsp nutella/chocolate hazelnut spread
~1 tbsp goat cheese
Optional: a little sprinkle of salt to bring out the flavours
Spread your nutella on one piece of your bread and spread goats cheese on the other, squish them together and devour in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
But tell me, what is your weirdest sandwich combination?
I once knew a girl who would put honey and vegemite on her sandwich... I don't think I could go that weird. One of my all time favourite combinations, however, was Vegemite, Cheese, Tomato and Lettuce (now I just eat it without the tomato and with gluten free mighty mite).

My brother came up with peanut butter and Vegemite years ago. Kind of a sweet and salty mix.
ReplyDeleteI have a couple of friends who eat vegemite and honey sandwiches or peanut butter and honey sandwiches, but I can't say I'm too keen to try them :P
DeleteI actually went to an event where they had vegemite caramels and although I didn't try them (gluten filled!) they were supposedly really good!
That is a very interesting combination! I might actually try it! I've eaten a cheese, almond, apple, and honey sandwich before.
ReplyDeleteAnd, don't worry. I've heard of other combinations.
Helen, if you try it out you have to let me know what you think! Cheese, almond, apple and honey actually sounds really good!
