Recipe: Peanut Butter Banana Green Smoothie

Peanut Butter and Banana Green Smoothie - Healthy, Vegan, Gluten Free, Low Fat

I never got green smoothies. I'd see them on blogs and on the web and on TV and I'd think, eugggggggghhhhhhhh how could that taste good?!

I swore I'd never, ever try a green smoothie - well... until I had an overload of spinach and curiosity got the better of me. Let me just say, my mind has totally changed. How you can't taste the spinach at all totally blows my mind - but I promise you that you can't. Not with the first sip and not with the last.

After finding out I was allergic to iron supplements (I know, another allergy to add to the list!), I've been adding iron in any which way I can get it until I get my iron injection. Now I'm more than happy to add spinach to my favourite smoothies - and somehow, that spinach has made my smoothies taste even better?

Stop scrunching up your face! I promise you this smoothie is deeeeeeeelicious - and you know me, I'd never put anything on SIL that I don't genuinely love!

Banana and Peanut Butter Green Smoothie - Healthy, Vegan, Gluten Free, Low Fat

Peanut Butter and Banana Green Smoothie serves 1
If you can't get over the spinach, here's a regular Healthy Peanut Butter & Banana Smoothie Recipe to use
gluten free, vegan, low fat, sugar free

1C unsweetened almond breeze or milk of choice
1/2 large banana, fresh or frozen (a frozen banana will make a thicker smoothie)
1-2 tbsp peanut butter or peanut flour
~1 cup washed baby spinach

Add all of your ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
You may need to mix the peanut butter/flour around as it tends to stick to the outside - but it should come together easily.
Pour into a glass or enjoy straight from the blender, lazy girl style ;)

*When I'm making a smoothie just for a snack, I tend to use peanut flour (which I also find makes it thicker and more peanutty) but if you're looking for a more meal-type smoothie, use peanut butter!

But tell me, green smoothies... what's your opinion?

  1. A smoothie is never complete if it isn't green. I always tend to use berries in my smoothies though so when I add the greens I usually end up with a brown or blackish color smoothie. Not the prettiest but it tastes lovely!

    1. Haha, yes! Berry smoothies with spinach do tend to turn quite an... unappealing colour ;P I definitely don't think I could convince Jesse to try one!

  5. This is soooooo good! I was totally blown away! I've made one for lunch for the past three days! :)

Oh, just a question about the spinach - is that 1 cup packed spinach, or just loosely packed? I've been doing a sort of in-between amount! I must be doing it right because it keeps turning out fantastic! :)

    1. Yay, I'm so glad you love it! To be honest, I kind of just shove as much spinach as I can into the blender - or use whatever I can, so probably a packed cup - just use whatever you like best!
